EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Large Mako Tooth in Matrix
Stock Number  STMAK15
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Isurus hastalis (Mako Tooth in Matrix)
Age:  Miocene
Formation:  Huarra Formation
Location:  Atacama Desert, Chile
Size:  Tooth is almost 3 inches long!

This is a very nice fossil from an unusual locality. It is a very large Isurus hastalis (Mako) shark tooth from Chile. This specimen is from the famous Atacama Desert collecting locality, which has been closed for some time. This specimen was found in the 1990's, and has been in a collection ever since. The tooth is very large (almost 3 inches long!), has very nice detail preserved, and has great natural color. The tooth is still embedded in a large chunk of natural matrix. This is a very nice example of a Mako shark tooth from a classic locality. (The shiny spots are reflections, not flaws in the tooth.)
