This is an outstanding fossilized Great White Shark tooth. It is a very large Carcharodon carcharias tooth from the Miocene of Chile. This species is the same type as today's modern Great White Shark. This specimen is huge - almost 3 inches long! The tooth is wonderfully preserved and exhibits very fine detail. The root of the tooth is extremely solid and robust. But the rarest feature of this tooth is that it is a pathological specimen. There are many natural wrinkles and twists in the enamel of the tooth. Both sides of the tooth display these features. This is a gigantic example of a pathologic fossil Great White Shark tooth fossil from South America - how many teeth have you seen this large and this pathologic?
