Isurus hastalis (Mako Tooth in Matrix)

Formation: Temblor Formation
Location: Shark Tooth Hill, Oildale, California
Size: Tooth is 2.8 inches long
This is a very nice fossil from an unusual locality. It is a large Isurus hastalis (Mako) shark tooth from California. This specimen is from the famous "Shark Tooth Hill" collecting locality, which has been closed for some time. This specimen was found in the 1960's, and has been in a collection ever since. The tooth is large (almost 3 inches long!), has very nice detail preserved, and has great natural color. The tooth is still embedded in a large chunk of natural matrix. This is a very nice example of a Mako shark tooth from a classic locality.
