This is an unusual shark tooth fossil. It is a Carcharocles auriculatus tooth from the Eocene of South Carolina. This shark was the first in the line of sharks that evolved into Carcharocles megalodon. This tooth has a very solid and substantial root. Both cusps of the tooth are intact and beautifully displayed. The serrations are clearly defined, and the very tip of the tooth shows hardly any wear. The glossy enamel of the tooth is beautifully preserved and has gorgeous coloration. Both sides of the tooth are quite attractive. This is a great specimen of this uncommon shark tooth from South Carolina.
