Carcharocles chubutensis Tooth from N. C.
Stock Number  STNCC02

Name:   Carcharocles chubutensis Tooth
Age:  Middle Miocene
Formation:  Pungo River
Location:  Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina
Size:  Tooth is 2.45 inches long

Here is a very unusual shark tooth from North Carolina. This is a Carcharocles chubutensis tooth from the Pungo River Formation. Shark teeth from the famous Lee Creek Mine are becoming very difficult to obtain, since fossil collecting was curtailed a few years ago. This tooth was a highly uncommon find even when collecting was allowed. The tooth has a very solid and substantial root. The sharp, regular serrations are nicely displayed and the two small cusps are wonderfully intact. The enamel is the beautiful classic color of a Lee Creek Tooth. This is an excellent example of this scarce tooth from a major shark tooth collection.
