This is a very unusual shark tooth. It is a Carcharocles auriculatus tooth from the Eocene of South Carolina. This shark was the first in the line of sharks that evolved into Carcharocles megalodon. The solid and substantial root of the tooth is quite evident. This specimen has the large cusps intact, and the sharp serrations of the tooth are easily seen. The glossy enamel is beautifully displayed on both sides of the tooth. This is a fine specimen of this uncommon shark tooth from South Carolina.
